About us

The region around St. Georgen am Längsee has a rich winemaking history that stretches back to the High Middle Ages. However, by the late 19th century, viticulture in Carinthia came to a halt, leading to a long period without local wine production.

Taggenbrunn Winery seamlessly blends tradition, history, and a deep connection to nature, creating a truly unique wine philosophy. Overlooking the vineyards stands the impressive Taggenbrunn Castle.

Spanning 40 hectares, the vineyards benefit from predominantly south-facing slopes and abundant sunshine, offering the perfect conditions for vine growth. The fertile soils and mild microclimate provide an ideal foundation for wines with a distinctive character.

Sustainability is at the heart of every step – from canopy management to harvest – with a deep respect for nature. This close-to-nature approach not only ensures exceptional grape quality but also supports a diverse ecosystem, with flourishing wild roses, a variety of plant species, and a thriving habitat for countless insects and birds.

From first sip to award-winning success.
Our beginnings date back to 1997, when the first vines were planted. The turning point in our journey arrived in 2011,
when Andrea and Alfred Riedl purchased the estate surrounding the historic Castle Taggenbrunn and gradually transformed former agricultural land into vineyards.

That was when a new success story began to be written,
with significant expansion of our terraced vineyards across
the sunlit slopes encircling the castle.

“Our passion for agriculture, our deep connection to nature, and our dedication to crafting high-quality wines led us to establish our winery. It’s a rewarding journey to nurture the grape from vine to glass, creating exceptional wines that reflect the unique character of our region and our love for winemaking.”

When nature meets knowledge and respect.

Our terraced vineyards give us exceptional wine due to their unique location, which allows for optimal sunlight.
Fertile slate soils and a unique climate ensure top quality.

The heart of our vineyard is Andrea Riedl, wine estate manager & owner. She brings us together, inspires us,
and, with her passion for winemaking, delights everyone who experiences Taggenbrunn wines.

Commitment to sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Our strength lies in mastering viticulture with knowledge and respect. Cellar master Hubert Vittori blends tradition with modern sustainability. We are aware of the advantages of working with our hands, from pruning the vines to processing the leaves and harvesting. That is why each vintage is the result of dedication, passion and the art of sustainable winemaking.
